      SADC/ESAMI Road Transport Manager's Training Project.

      The project is funded by the European Union (EU). This has been a four year project that addresses Technical and managerial issues in road transport for clients in SADC countries.


      SADC Rural Energy Planning and Environmental Management Training Project

      During the first phase, which ended in 1997, ESAMI trained 690 middle and senior level managers including ministers. Second phase is expected to start in July 2000. The project is funded by the Royal Netherlands Government. This project is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the region in Energy and Environmental issues. The second phase of the project is due to start this year.

       

      National Income Generation Programme (NIGP) Tanzania

      ESAMI implemented the capacity Building Development and Training Project for NIGP. The Project was financed by UNDP among other multilateral agencies.
      The project aimed at among others to increase the capacity of Tanzania NGOs and private firms participating in national development through training. It meant to provide effective training services to expand income generating activities and employment to NGOs, public and private sectors. This was part of the efforts of the country towards poverty alleviation.

       

      Municipal Development Programme (MDP)

      This World Bank funded programme for Eastern and Southern Africa started in 1995. The programme is aimed at enhancing institutional capacity of local governments in the region. ESAMI's role has been one of nurturing the institution to maturity. Todate external evaluations of MDP have attested to its effectiveness.

       

      Past Projects Include:

       

      ESAMI/ISNAR/SACCAR Agricultural Project, 1997

      This was a ten-year Agricultural Management Project funded by the USAID that focused on improving the capacity for Agricultural Management within the SADC countries. This project attracted other countries notably Kenya and Nigeria.
      This project was funded by the Netherlands Government and was implemented by Dutch firm ETC and ESAMI. All provincial officers from the ministry of Agriculture were trained in Project Management and General Management to help manage Poultry Project at local level.

       

      UNISOM, Somali, 1994

      ESAMI was engaged by the United Nations to undertake management training for senior officials during the difficult era of searching for peace and formation of a central government. Training was carried out in Somalia but when the situation deteriorated ESAMI started to airlift the participants to ESAMI, Arusha with the help of United Nations. When UNOSOM phased out ESAMI was retained by the Peace Institute of Sweden to train district governors and help set up local government structures in Northern Somalia.
